A bedtime story starring your child

A bedtime book should wind down rather than wind up. This one takes your child on a gentle journey (a moonlit boat trip, a walk through a sleepy forest) that ends tucked up in their own bed.

The text uses a soft, repetitive rhythm that suits reading aloud, and the art styles are calm and warm.

How it works

Step by step

  1. 1

    About the child

First name, age and pronouns. The age sets the age band: board book, picture book or early reader.

  2. 2

    Design their avatar

Choose skin tone, hair style and colour, eye colour, glasses and freckles. No photo upload needed.

  3. 3

    Pick a theme

Birthday, Christmas, new sibling, first day at school, bedtime or a hero adventure.

  4. 4

    See the preview

About a minute later: their character portrait and a cover with their name.

  5. 5

    Make the book

Every page illustrated (12 spreads for a picture book), editable text and a dedication, then download.

What you need
  • The child’s first name, age and pronouns
  • An avatar you design (skin tone, hair, eyes, glasses, freckles); no photos needed
  • A theme or occasion

  • The child drawn consistently on every page, from the avatar you design
  • Two covers to choose from, with their name typeset
  • Screen PDF and print-ready PDF, sized for the age band (7×7, 8.5×8.5 or 6×9 in)
  • Optional: a colouring book of the same story, with every scene as a line-art page

Previews are free for signed-in users during the 7-day Pro trial. Making the full book uses a Pro book credit (Pro includes one a month), and downloading or printing needs a paid plan.

Questions

Frequently asked

How long is the bedtime story?

Length follows the age band: a few lines per page for toddlers, longer passages for early readers. A full read-aloud takes around five to ten minutes.

Can I get a new bedtime story every night?

That is the Bedtime Story Series template (coming soon): a new short illustrated and narrated story each night, starring the same character.

Do you need photos of my child?

No. The first version uses an avatar you design. If photo likeness is added later it will be opt-in, with parental consent and automatic deletion of source photos.

How is this different from “Write a children’s book”?

This template is done for you: a finished gift book in minutes. “Write a children’s book” is for authors writing their own picture book to publish, with age-band rules and illustration tools.
