Genre Quick-Start template

Start your romance novel from a trope

Romance readers come for the trope and stay for the voice. Pick yours (enemies to lovers, fake dating, second chance, or grumpy and sunshine), choose a tone and a heat level, and Penwrite builds a premise, two leads with real wants and wounds, a supporting cast, and a starter outline that maps the trope’s opening beats onto your first five chapters.

Then you land in the editor with chapter one ready to draft: one click writes the opening scene in your chosen tone. From there it is your book. Every character, beat and line is editable, and the AI remembers all of it as you write on.

Trope beats built in

The first clash, the fake-dating deal or the homecoming: each pack’s opening beats become your first five chapters, with scenes ready to draft.

Heat level, your call

Sweet, closed door (the default) or steamy. It is saved in the Story Bible and respected on every page, and you can change it any time.

Two leads in the Codex

Both leads, a confidant and an obstacle get Codex profiles with wants and wounds the AI keeps consistent.

How it works

Step by step

  1. 1

    Pick a genre and pack

Romance tropes, cozy mysteries and fantasy shapes. Packs are original tropes, never franchises.

  2. 2

    Add your spark

Optional: your protagonist’s name, a setting and a one-line twist, plus the tone (and heat level for romance).

  3. 3

    Get the foundations

A premise, a Story Bible, the cast with wants and wounds, a setting and key lore, streamed in about 30 seconds.

  4. 4

    Review the outline

Five opening chapters built on your trope’s beats. Rename, reorder, regenerate or cut anything before you start.

  5. 5

    Draft chapter one

You land in the editor with the Draft panel open; one click drafts the opening scene for you to keep, redo or rewrite.

Tips for your romance opening

  • Add a setting and a one-line twist (a job, a secret, a shared past) so the premise is yours, not generic.
  • Pick a tone (rom-com, heartfelt or slow burn) rather than naming an author; it sets your book’s default voice, which you can retune later.
Questions

Frequently asked

Which romance tropes are included?

Enemies to lovers, fake dating, second-chance romance, and grumpy and sunshine. Add your own spin with the one-line twist, and edit the premise and outline before you start.

Can I write fan fiction with it?

No. Packs are original tropes rather than existing franchises, so the book is yours to publish.

Does it write the whole book?

No. It gives you a running start (foundations, a five-chapter outline and chapter one ready to draft), then you write with Penwrite’s AI alongside you.

Which plans include it?

Every plan, including Free and the Pro trial; it never uses a book credit. Generating counts toward your monthly AI words like any other drafting, and the new book counts toward your plan’s project limit.
